Preston is in a full spica cast. It's weird but I wasn't shocked by it nor scared by it. I guess all the researching I did before the surgery made all the difference. As for Preston, he is little cranky and clingy but it's getting better everyday. I think he is fine until he realizes that he can't move his legs then he freaks out. But for the most part, he is doing really well and he is almost getting back to his normal happy self.
Henry and I are finding creative ways to make him stay comfortable and trying to treat him as normal as possible. Diapering has not been too bad but we are tyring to keep it from soiling the cast as much as possible. We are pretty tired though as Preston has been getting up every 3-4 hours during the night, probably b/c he's not very comfortable. They say babies get used it by the 2nd week or so.

HI, I am so happy to find this. We have a daughter with hip dyplasia and she is also in full spica cast. I would love to talk to another parent who has already been through it and is on the other side. She has been casted for 1 month and was in a brace since birth (that obviously didn't work). SHe is 7 months old. How old was Preston when he was casted? IS he doing great now? Did he only need to have the 1 surgery or multiple? I would love, love to know your story. I just want to know that she will be ok when this is all over.

Hi there, glad it went so well. I found your post while looking up the Hippo car seat - after the fact - since nobody had told us. Just an FYI for those of us that can't get the Hippo seat (cost and/or were not told). We went to Goodwill and bought a used one -then "customized" it with a hacksaw. Of course be sure not to cut any parts that impact structural integrety of the seat or any part effecting the base/seat click in function. We cut just the side walls near his feat - that did the trick.
Hope it helps and good luck!
