So much to update...

Sorry, I have been bad about updating. My new project just kicked off so I been pretty busy at work and being a mom is busy too! Weather in Seattle has been very cold. RSV season is over so we have been taking Preston out a lot lately. He seem to love being out side and seeing new things.

Also he got into Daycare!!! (yes, it was harder than getting into college but he is in). We actually don't need care until September since MIL has decided to stay with us until Preston's cast is off in August but in order to ensure we get the full time spot come September, we had to accept the Tues/Thurs spot which started yesterday! Preston had his first day at daycare and he did fantastic. I he didn't even cry when Henry and I dropped him off. He seemed more interested in all the new toys at the daycare. :) I was so worried about having him starting daycare but I think it will do him some good. He seem to love being around other kids and so far I feel really good about the teachers taking care of him -granted it's only been one day. I am sure he will get sick too but I guess I have to come to terms that that's just part of natural process! And both his pediatrician and neonatolgist both thought it was fine for him to go to daycare.

Also yesterday, we had a follow up appointment with high risk clinic at Swedish. Since he was a preemie, they follow up with him until he is 3 years old to make sure he is on track.
The appointment went really well. Preston is doing great in terms of size he was 19 pounds 12 oz and 28 inches long. He was 50% for both weight and height in growth chart for 8 month adjusted and 25% for both weight and height in growth chart for 10 months actual. Not too shabby for being born at only 2 pounds and 4 oz.
Only area he is little behind is in his gross motor skills and the doctor really felt that it's related to him having virtually no fluid to move around while in utero. He really still hates tummy time so we are really working with him on that and we are also working on having him sit by himself.
We also got into early intervention program at the boyer clinic for physical therapy so the therapist comes to our house once a week to work with him. Doctor also checked Preston out and reassured me that we have nothing to worry about in term of CP at this point as he didn't see any signs of CP. Preston's gross motor skills will be delayed as he goes into a full body cast on May 22nd to August 20th so doctor told us to read and sing to him a lot to stimulate his brain.

Last year around this time (May 1st to be exact) is when I was admitted to the hospital on strict bedrest. My water had already been broken and I was bleeding and leaking constantly and no one could tell me the fate of my baby but only thing that kept me going was a small faith that he would be okay and I would be able to hold him someday. Exactly a year later, I have a healthy baby despite all the complications and hardship that we both went through. All I can say is I am thankful and grateful.

I leave you with some pictures from the past month...

So much to be thankful for...

Preston had a busy month of doctor's appointments. Each time I feel anxious about what we might be told. I am so happy to report that he has no ROP and his eyes are normal! (Another big complication from being born premature).
Also his ASD (little hole in his heart) is gone and his heart is also normal! This was a wonderful news!
We also decided to start him on once a week of PT to get his gross motor skills in check before the hip surgery.
He is now almost 20 pounds and drinks 30 ounces of milk per day and eats 3 feedings of solid food. He LOVES rice cereal and avocados! :) He is sitting assisted but still really hates tummy time!

Picture of Spica Cast

Some of you have asked me what spica cast is and what it looks like.

I found this picture on-line. Preston's should look similar but we probably won't choose pink for him! :)

Spica Here We Come!!!

We had an appt. with Preston's hip surgeon yesterday and the date has been set!
May 22 is THE day. I am so glad we finally have a date so we can plan around that.

This week has been extremely stressful week for me as we are in the process of looking for a nanny or daycare. Sorry to say, MIL will be leaving soon.

We are currently on a wait list for a daycare but nothing is for sure until September and most of the places I called, the wait list is 8 to 12 months! Can you even believe it! :(

Nanny's average rate is $15/hour and if you do the math it comes to be around $2800/month for full time care. I am not sure if I can justify $2800/month and some even asked for paid vacation and health care! I am really beginning to realize how hard it is to be a mom and want to work and grow professionally. Does it have to be this hard?
I have couple of options right now and none of them sound very good at the moment but I am hoping something will come about. Will keep you posted!

I have my baby back!!!

Finally, Preston's two bottom teeth came out! In the Past 2 weeks, he was cranky and clingy but he's back to his happy self! Thank GOD!

He had a busy week. We went in for his 6 month eval with the physical therapist and of course he had another course of his RSV shot (next month is the last one! yay!!). This time he had to get 2 shots b/c he is now 18 pounds and 8 ounces! I didn't really notice it before, but he is getting very heavy for me to hold him now. It's so cute but his arms and legs look like little fat sausages! kee. kee (pictures to come soon)

PT eval was good. Overall he did great on his cognitive and fine motor skills but he was little behind in his gross motor skills. He still really hates tummy time and PT advised us to get his stomach muscles stronger. She gave us a lot of exercises to work with him on. We got one of those big exercise ball to get him to do tummy time on it. And I have been using it for my abs as well! :) Happy to report that although still little tight, I was able to get into one of my pre pregnancy pants this week and button it up!

Happy Easter!

1 hour makes a big difference!

Before the time change last week, Preston had a great routine that worked for us. He had his last milk at 9pm and woke up around 6am and had 2 afternoon naps. With the time change, he is all over the place. He didn't fall asleep until 11pm last night and would cry until I rocked him to sleep. This morning, I had to wake him up to feed him before I went to work. Hopefully, he will soon get back into a routine! Here are some pictures of him.

Beautiful Weekend in Seattle

We had another beautiful weekend in Seattle... sunny and warm weather. Preston and I went on a short walk (it was suppose to be) and we ended up walking around the whole lake union! It took us almost 2 1/2 hours. It was a great work out for me and good nap time for Preston. I am feeling it today though! :) Here are some pictures from the weekend.
